Italdesign Lamborghini Huracan

Italdesign Automobili Speciali, a limited edition production brand from Italdesign will be building five of the mid-engined supercar you see below.  The supercar is based on the Lamborghini Huracan and will be built almost entirely of carbon fiber.


The supercar will be powered by a 5.2-liter V10 with a top speed in excess of 205 mph and should be lighter than a run-of-the-mill Huracán.   Lamborghini and Italdesign often work closely with each other and with Lamborghini having control over Italdesign this new model will probably be the most exclusive Lamborghini Huracán.

Mercedes Maybach Vision 6 Concept

Mercedes Benz announces the Maybach Vision 6 Concept.


The Vision 6 is huge and at 18.7 feet is 10 inches longer than the Mercedes-Maybach S600.  Hiding under the extremely long hood is not a V-12 but a trunk with custom-fitted luggage.  Mounted in the floor under the hood is an 80 kW-hr battery for better weight distribution and a low center of gravity. The battery drives four permanent-magnet synchronous electric motors, one connected to each wheel and together they produce 738 horsepower.  To support this amount of power you need big wheels and the Vision 6 is being shown with 24 inches at each corner.


Mercedes Benz claims the Vision 6 will hit 62 mph in less than four seconds with a top speed limited to 155 mph. Under normal driving conditions it will do 200 miles on a charge by EPA standards, and thanks to a DC quick-charge system, can take on 62 miles worth of electricity in just five minutes.


Step through the gullwing doors and this 2+2 four-seater is a five-star spaceship. Passengers will sit in swoopy chairs and control everything on a continuous strip of touchscreen, which runs the length of the dash and both doors. The seats are full of sensors that can track everything from your health to the color of your clothes and use the information to mix up the mood lighting.  The windshield is a massive display screen where both the driver and passengers can obtain augmented reality information.



The Vision 6 concept will most likely never see production but it will serve to showcase future luxury electric vehicle technologies.

Shell Project M

Gordon Murray, designer of some of the best F1 cars together with engine experts Geo Technology and Shell scientists have cooperated to create an ultra-light prototype of a city car that uses a third less energy in its lifetime than a typical city car.  The team worked closely together to co-engineer the car’s body, engine and lubricants to minimize fuel use and CO2 emissions. The car uses significantly less energy from its manufacture to the end of its life.


“You could build this car and drive it for around 100,000 kilometres before consuming the same energy it takes to make a typical SUV,” says engineer Bob Mainwaring, Shell’s Technology Manager for Innovation, who is leading the project.


The car’s body is made with recycled carbon fiber to help reduce its overall weight to 550 kilograms.  To help reduce air friction the wing mirrors have been replaced with tiny digital cameras that relay the view of the road behind through screens inside.  The car has a top speed of about 68mph (110 km/h) – more than enough for a day trip away from the city – but performs best at 31-44mph (50-70km/h)

Ford F-150 SSV

Ford will offer a new F-150 Special Service Vehicle (SSV) in SuperCrew and SuperCab versions. The military grade aluminum F-150 custom truck is outfitted for police and emergency services.  The new truck will be offered with a choice of a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 or a 5.0-liter V8 with 4x2 or 4x4 drivetrains.

Oshkosh L-ATV

The Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) was a program to find a replacement for the Humvee with the primary aim of the design to improve on areas where the original Humvee fell short.  The JLTV was in development for several years with a number of military contractors submitting bids to the program.
After several years of development, evaluation and tests in various proving grounds by the Army and Marines the Oshkosh Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle (L-ATV) was selected on 25 August 2015.


While the Humvee is a very capable vehicle able to tackle a wide variety of off-road situations, it initially lacked protection to the occupants from machine gun fire, shrapnel and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
JLTV program was to incorporate lessons learned from using the Humvee in combat situations while balancing payload, mobility and protection into a new vehicle.  The new vehicle must be able to be delivered via C-130 or CH-47/CH-53 helicopters.
The Army requirements is to buy close to 50,000 vehicles in the next 25 years and the Marine Corps another 5,500.  A production contract is to be awarded to a single vendor with each vehicle coming off the assembly line not exceeding $250,000.

Blade

Divergent Microfactories today unveiled a disruptive new approach to auto manufacturing that incorporates 3D printing to dramatically reduce the pollution, materials and capital costs associated with building automobiles and other large complex structures. Highlighted by Blade, the first prototype supercar based on this new technology, Divergent Microfactories CEO Kevin Czinger introduced the company’s plan to dematerialize and democratize car manufacturing.


Divergent Microfactories’ technology centers around its proprietary solution called a Node: a 3D-printed aluminum joint that connects pieces of carbon fiber tubing to make up the car’s chassis. The Node solves the problem of time and space by cutting down on the actual amount of 3D printing required to build the chassis and can be assembled in just minutes.
The centerpiece of the Divergent Microfactories announcement is Blade.  Equipped with a 700-horsepower bi-fuel engine that can use either compressed natural gas or gasoline, Blade goes from 0-60 in about two seconds and weighs around 1,400 pounds.

Honda S660

Honda has announced that a production version of a concept it showcased at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show will be made available to the public.  The Honda S660 is designed to be a fully-fledged sports car packed into a mini, two-seater form featuring a mid-engine layout with a 660-cc, three-cylinder turbo.


The S660 will have a six-speed manual transmission with short throws and gear ratios that are superbly matched to the engine.  A more powerful, 1.0-liter turbo rumored to make more than 125 horsepower might come to the United States.

Lincoln Continental

Lincoln has revealed the Lincoln Continental Concept which resurrects one of the most iconic nameplates and previews what the car will look like when launched next year.  The Continental concept is fitted with laser-assist high beam headlights and has a pedestrian detection system that can automatically brake to avoid collisions.


The four-door classic sedan shape is clearly inspired by the iconic Continentals of the 1960’s and introduces the company’s new grille design, a rounded rectangular mesh with a large badge in the middle. The concept continues with the Lincoln's traditional full length taillights with a translucent chrome coating to make them look metallic when they're not illuminated.


The new model will be available with a new 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 and be focused on delivering what Lincoln calls “quiet luxury".  The reclining rear seats have an airplane style tray table that comes out of the center console.

LM2 Streamliner

The Lyons Motor Car LM2 Streamliner is the first American hypercar that will counter the best performing and exclusive vehicles from Europe and Asia.  The LM2 Streamliner is an engineering tour-de-force; it is a masterpiece equivalent to fine art.


Lyons Motor Car is the first hypercar manufacturer to entirely eliminate a chassis’ wiring harness, resulting in a 99% reduction on the typical 20 miles worth of wiring in every car.

The LM2 has a DOHC V8 engine, 1700 HP, revolution 4 cam twin turbocharged with twin intercoolers, AWD 7 speed sequential gearbox,  Brembo sourced carbon ceramic brake rotors, Bosh ESP ABS systems package.  The hypercar will have a carbon fiber body and full length carbon fiber chassis, with carbon fiber and billet stainless steel subframes.

Range Rover Sport HST

Range Rover will debut the 2016 Range Rover Sport HST at the 2015 New York Auto Show.
The Sport HST comes with an updated version of the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine used on the Jaguar F-Type S, delivering an additional 40hp over the existing SE and HSE models at 380hp. The HST will have updated and bigger brakes with 20-inch discs on 21-inch wheels and a single-range transmission with a tweaked version of the Terrain Response set-up.

Aston Martin Vulcan

Aston Martin has developed the Vulcan, a track-only supercar born out of extensive motorsport experience.  The Vulcan supercar is powered by the most potent version of the company’s naturally-aspirated, 7.0-litre V12 gas engine developed in conjunction with Aston Martin Racing.  The car features a carbon fibre monocoque and body constructed by Aston Martin’s long-term specialist body engineering and manufacturing partner Multimatic, integral limited-slip differential, magnesium torque tube with carbon fibre propeller shaft and Brembo racing calipers acting on carbon ceramic racing disc brakes.


The Vulcan with its 800-plus HP and all-carbon fiber body should provide truly extreme performance.   The Aston Martin Vulcan made its world debut at the 85th Geneva International Motor Show on March 3 and will be limited to just 24 examples worldwide.

Jeep Renegade

The Jeep Renegade is a 4.2-meter SUV that’s been designed and developed in the USA and is based on a heavily adapted Fiat supermini platform, the same platform used on the Fiat 500X.

Powered by a choice of MultiAir turbo petrol and Multijet turbodiesel engines, the Jeep Renegade has a clutch-driven lockable permanent four-wheel drive, an ultra-short crawler transmission ratio, hill descent control and plenty ground clearance.

Cadillac CT6

Cadillac will most likely unveil the new CT6 at the upcoming New York International Auto Show.  No one knows what it looks like but the render below should be pretty close.
One thing we do know is the CT6 will not have a V8.  The new car will be offered with two choices of V6's.


GM says a 3.0-liter twin-turbo and a 3.6-liter normally aspirated incorporate all kinds of technological wizardry to boost performance and efficiency.  The 3.0-liter twin-turbo is said to offer around 400HP along with 400 lb-ft of torque which should put a smile in every driver.
To conserve fuel the V6's will offer cylinder deactivation and start/stop technology for more efficiency.  GM says the twin-turbo will have a Hydra-Matic 8L90 paddle-shift eight-speed gearbox.

BLOODHOUND

The '1,000mph' Bloodhound car is so fast it needs to be bulletproof.   At 1,000mph, the car's solid aluminium wheels will be spinning at 10,200 rpm, that's rotating at 170 times per second, generating a staggering 50,000 radial g at the rim. A 1kg bag of sugar at the center of the wheel would weigh 50 tonnes.  If a piece of the wheel were to fly off, or indeed a stone lying just under the surface of the desert were to flick up, they could penetrate the incredibly strong carbon composite cockpit.  To combat this, Morgan Advanced Materials have developed a lightweight composite ballistic panel, containing millions of woven glass fibers to soak up the energy of projectiles that hit them. The panels have been fitted to both sides of the carbon fiber cockpit to protect driver, Andy Green.



Jeep Grand Cherokee Overlander

Jeep Grand Cherokee Overlander concept is meant for off-roaders who want to go on long-distance journeys, so it packs a diesel engine for extra-long fuel range and a pop-up camping tent atop the roof racks. A small ladder allows vehicle occupants to climb up to the tent, which weighs just 100 pounds and can be stowed again in a compact hard shell.
Out front, the Overlander spots "limb riser" steel wires that push tree branches away from the windshield, plus an LED light bar.

Chevrolet EN-V 2.0

Chevrolet's Electric Networked-Vehicle concept may never see real street time but General Motors is using the EN-V 2.0 to explore several tantalizing ideas of urban-only driving.
The EN-V 2.0 can travel up to 25 miles on a single charge. It is a design utilizing the convergence of electrification and connectivity, intended to address and solve concerns of traffic congestion, parking availability and air quality.  The EN-V 2.0 is an efficient and zero-emissions vehicles.



Mercedes-Benz F 015

The Mercedes-Benz F 015 Luxury in Motion research car and its immersive user experience is an innovative perspective into the future of mobility.  The electric hybrid system has a total range of 1,100 kilometres, including around 200 kilometres of battery-powered driving and around 900 kilometres on the electricity from the fuel cell.

This innovative four-seater is a forerunner of a mobility revolution, and this is immediately apparent from its futuristic appearance.
